So, basically if you can get good value+ for a player that doesn't project to do much for you in 4-5 years, trade him for someone that does.

Yeah, I'm good with that. But you better have the people in place who can turn in the goods so that 4-5 years from now we're not Edmonton or Winnipeg or Buffalo or Ottawa...

It still baffles me that Edmonton hasn't really done anything with McDavid, and really some of his supporting cast.

That organization has to be major FUBAR to have made such a mess of what fell into their lap the last 10 years.

And, McDavid may be an elite player. But, he's obviously not an elite mind. He signed the heart of his career to an organization that clearly was messed up - at a discount! Who's this guy's agent, Gretzky?

More Trade porn.

Ducks Should Pursue Bruins’ McAvoy

Interestingly.  There is another link that came up on my feed.  But I got a danger warning when clicking on it.  But it's from Boston Hockey Now.  And they say they are honing in on Kase.

This would actually make hockey sense as Murray likes to say.  McAvoy is 22, a right handed shot.  2 seasons at $4.9 million then a RFA.  So lot's of control left.  He's a 50+ CF and FF with this season right at the 50% mark.  Kase has 1 year at $2.6 million then a RFA.  But it seems Kase is struggling with the new system.  And he does have an injury history.

Looking at it further.  If you get McAvoy (RH), then that would mean Manson (RH) is expendable.  And the Jets do need a Dman and might pay well for him.  There was also a rumor that the Maple Leafs were looking for dmen with term, and that Kapanen was available.

John Gibson had a Kobe Bryant themed mask made

The Anaheim Ducks themselves honored the victims of the crash with 24 seconds of silence before the game against the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday, and it got even crazier when Carter Rowney, number 24 for the Ducks scored 24 seconds into a power play in the 24th home game of the season on the 24th shot of the game to make the score 2-4.

NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs – Kapanen, Goaltending, and How To Add A Top-Four Defenseman

Quote

An example of a deal they could look for: Leafs get Josh Manson … Ducks get Kasperi Kapanen and Cody Ceci with the Leafs retaining $2 million. Also, a move like this would give them a bit of cap flexibility for the rest of the season.

The Ducks may want a pick or prospects as well, but it’s just an example of the type of deal the Leafs could look for.

Add a pick or prospect, and you don't even need to retain the $2 million.

Glad Bouwmeester made it.  What a crazy thing to see.

anyway, why the hell haven’t the Ducks traded anyone yet ?

I was thinking the same thing.  Murray usually likes to trade just for the sake of trading.  And now that he needs to trade to start a rebuild, he's just pissing in the corner hoping no one is watching.

Boston becomes the sixth team to move a 2020 first-round pick along with David Backes and defensive prospect Axel Andersson to Anaheim for Ondrej Kase.

David Backes $4.925 this season and next.  (edit.  Boston retains 25%)
Axel Andersson  Lol another Swede.  But second rounder, 20 YO.  Hockeydb  EliteProspects

Skilled defenseman who skates well. Has interesting offensive upside, with very good passing skills and the ability to lead the rush. Strong puck mover and plays well on the man advantage. (EP 2018)

Overall, I like.

A lot to like. I didn't see them getting a 1st plus players for him

Yeah.  He might do well in Boston.  Probably will do really well.  But the injury history is a big risk.  And on the Ducks, he was always on the cusp, but never was able to take that step.

The defenseman looks intriguing.  20 yo, right handed shot.  Something we really really needed, since I think all our big prospect Dmen are lefties (Guhle, Mahura, Larsson).

And Backes is in a good situation.  We can call him back up and play him.  And if he embraces the chance, and does well.  Can trade him in the offseason or next seasons trade deadline.  By the sounds of it, he seems like a liked person in Boston.

And a first in a deep draft, even if it's late round is never a bad thing.

This was a good trade by Murray.  On the Boston side, they think they fleeced us.

Grant for ........  Dog$hit ?

I see two things here. Murray looked across town and saw what they accumulated for the draft and realized his inability to make a deal was being exposed or Bob saw a chance to decimate his 4th line and improve his chance for a top draft choice.

I know I'm a Grant fanboy, but come on Bob.
