Angels Sign Matt Harvey

I like this deal. It's one year. It's $11MM. If it ends up being $14MM, he will have been well worth it.

I would not consider this signing to be a "gamble."

Because this is a one year deal, it is low-risk high-reward.

Skaggs is the current ace right? He’s ok. I guess he’s border line ace but not a true ace. He needs to stay healthy and take the next step. Any chance the Angels can add Keuchel or Kikuchi. Wonder how Ramírez, Tropeano and Pena will fit in. Like the depth the team is building but they need healthy arms.

I don't hate this signing.  Just the money involved. Bour at 2.5 is very doable.  Harvey at 11 is just a lot to gamble on because of the budget. That's 13.5 million spent on projects.  I'm sure Trout is loving this. Whatever though. I will hope for the best. So now Eppler has around 17 million or so to get 2 RP, another SP and a C.

I would rather have Harvey at 11 mil plus incentives than Happ at 14.  A rotation of Heaney, Harvey, Skaggs, Barria, and Canning isn't awful.  

Also, didn't Eddie Bane draft Harvey for us once before?
