That's pretty much what you'll find at the stores here as well. It's a flooded market and there really isn't anything MT makes that stands out.

It's best to go to a local brewery that has some stuff you like and just get a growler filled from their tap. Old beer sucks

what's the difference between old beer and something that's been aged?

For IPAs the fresher you drink them the better because the hop flavor fades quick. Depending on what hops are used some can become completely undrinkable a month after brewing. Other beers like stouts you can age in a climate controlled setting and some people prefer the taste. Especially if they are aged in bourbon barrels.
