Trout shouldn’t have to change numbers. 

Let trout wear it until he leaves or retires as an angel . In the meantime retire 27 for vlad. If they have to retire 27 twice so be it 

heck the mlb retired 42 and Mo Vaughn and Rivera were still allowed to wear it

"IF"?  Trout's basically got a 100% chance of having his jersey retired by us, barring him retiring this offseason or him pulling a Favre on us (going to your rival out of spite).  And even Favre's jersey eventually got retired by the Packers.

Trout will go in the hall, hopefully as an angel (and hope arte insures that happens). It will be cool to see the two of them in the hall, as the last 27s for this team.

Mike Trout is very smart.  He knows how to behave in a way that elevates him historically.

Trout has an obvious free ticket here to look even greater.

He offers to wear another uniform to let Vladfy have it.  He looks like a saint for it.

Vladdy gets a the retired number.

The Angels have a big PR event and lots of positive content to deliver to the media.

And the Angels get to sell a boatload of new Trout jerseys with a new number.

Everyone wins.

Trout is too smart to not do this. . .

He doesn't owe it to anyone to do it, but he is a genius if he does.

I dont think Trout needs to do it -- but if he did switch numbers he could pull a Carlton Fisk and just reverse the numbers going from 27 to 72.    

Or the Angels could clone Mike Trout 5 times and then sometime in the future just retire the number 727...   (this would be my choice)

FWIW, the Yankees retired No. 8 twice, once for Bill Dickey and once for Yogi Berra.

Yes absolutely. but cmon you don't make Trout switch his number that's ludicrous. You don't make a guy who will go down as one of the 10 best players to play the game switch 6 years into his career. And don't bring in Kobe he did that under his own accord.

Vlad's version of 27 will probably be "retired," with the Angels' other pending Hall of Famer continuing to wear it as long as he's an Angel.  That would be a local version of 42. The Angels retired numbers include fan fave 11, HOFers 29 and 30, The Cowboy 26 and the Bambino's road roomie 50. So someday there will be two 27s hanging over whatever stadium the Angels call home at that time. (Hopefully, the one they're in now.)

A bit of perspective: in their somewhat more glorious history, the Yankees have 21 retired numbers, including doubles on 8 (Berra and Dickey), and 42 (Jack and Mariano). Ifyou haven't already  noticed, all their single digits are retired.

I have not heard anyone anywhere say that the Angels should make Trout switch numbers.

I have only heard people talk about how Trout could choose to do so.
