At first I thought he was demoted because the team was going into NL parks and Marte and Albert were both righties that play first base.  Then I thought this was temporary because the team will make a decision shortly on Pennington or Espinosa.  Now I don't know what to think.

They said something along the lines about him going down to work specifically on pitch recognition - sometimes I think it really is just as simple as that. Go somewhere where he can get play everyday and focus on improving one aspect instead of trying to make it all click where it counts while waiting your turn to play.

Grichuk has played well for St . Louis at times and has been their starter in the OF -- at least on a platoon basis.

He must have really fallen out of favor to be optioned out to CLASS A ball.

But, as has been pointed out before -- the best minor league instruction/ instructors is given at the A and AA ball level.

The Triple A roster is full of bitter guys trying to hang on and wondering why they're not in the bigs, a few players who are 4-A players apt to be called upon at any moment to sub in for 25 man MLB roster guy who goes on the DL and then there's a player or two a step away from the majors who just missed making the team in March.

so maybe Grichuk being sent to A Ball really signifies that the Cards have not given up on him -- if they had, he'd be at the Triple A level.

a reliable source told me Cron was set up... after the Mets game Luis Valbuena ate the last piece of lasagna in the post game meal spread and Scioscia went bonkers after noticing his customary last piece of lasagna wasn't there... dude started throwing chairs and hitting Gatorade coolers with a baseball bat (it was scary nuts according to my source)... knowing that Scioscia was getting ready to call the Mets security personnel to pull up locker room surveillance footage Valbuena secretly went up to Scioscia and told him he saw Cron eating the last piece... with Scioscia being a huge fan of Valbuena's Mathis like batting average believed Valbuena and quickly called Arte (not Billy) and demanded that Cron be thrown off the team... Billy (being the cooler head of everyone involved) got wind of the whole situation and suggested the Angels demote him instead of waiving him and that's why Cron got sent down.
