The Texas DB is lucky he wasn't ejected and suspended by the NCAA.   I thought that type of hit was outlawed?

Who did he think he was, Vontaze Burfict?

Yep. It was a total bullcrap and unconscionable no call. The play clearly fit the rulebook and the examples given in the rulebook (hint: one of the examples given in the rule describes exactly that play) for targeting. If they're really going to try and protect players in the sport, they need to call that. It doesn't matter if the refs are scared that 100k or so people in Austin or wherever at the game will be fuming mad that the outcome of the game may be altered. If you commit the penalty and it affects the game, so be it. Refs should call it. They can get a police escort out of the stadium after the game if need be.

I think it was idiotic for him to pick football. I may be a bit biased, but I would think if offered an opportunity in NFL or MLB, the smart choice would be baseball right?

Higher base pay, less chance for injury, dad was there so you get a little leeway.

Plus taking hits like that turns you into a frigging vegatable.

I don't know much about college football rukes though, I thought the shoulder was legal but the helmet was not.

I don't know how you could possibly fault a kid for wanting to be a part of the Notre Dame football experience. Regardless of his professional aspirations that's got to be a tough thing to pass up.

As far as the hit, I think anything that targets the receiver above his shoulders is considered illegal no matter what part of the body is used to make the hit.

In 2013, Hunter was drafted in the 36th round. He obviously loves football and is getting a great education at an incredible university.

He chose wisely.

I have no problem with going to college, I wasnt arguing that at all. I just think its a dumb decision to risk injuring himself in football, a sport that could easily end an athletic career, when he has a Baseball team already interested in him.

Ever hear of Bo Jackson? Guy should have never been on a football field. Football is the sport that ends careers, shortens lifespans, and on top of all that, pays less.

And oh look at that, he got hurt. Dumb.

Yes, i've heard of Bo Jackson.

He was a 2-time All-American at Auburn and won the Heisman Trophy his senior year. He was injured six years later while playing professional football.

Hunter won't be playing both sports professionally.

Thug linebacker that was destined to be a early first round pick until everyone realized he was a thug and he ended up undrafted.  Last I checked he played for the Bengals which fits.  He was a big deal at ASU.

Vintage Burdick is great auto correct.

I'm amazed that you and AO talk about him and dirty hits without knowing about or commenting on the hit he laid on Antonio Brown in the playoffs.  Cincy was up 16-15 with less than 20 seconds while Pitt had the ball and had a long ways to go.  Burfict got flagged for an illegal hit that knocked Brown out and kept Pitt alive.  Shortly after that a penalty on Adam Jones got Pitt into FG territory and they won the game.  Cincy was in a position to finally win a playoff game and the two biggest idiots on thir team couldn't keep it together for the entire game and lost their cool.  Pitt didn't haven't Antonio in the next game against Denver and they barely lost.  As a Denver fan I can say that if Cincy had advanced or Pitt been healthy either one of those should have beaten Denver.

But his decision in 2013 wasn't the NFL vs MLB.

One option was minor league baseball as a 36th round pick, with stops in cities like Norwich, CT, Comstock Park, MI,  Erie , PA, etc.   The other was playing major college football on national tv every week and getting a free education at one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

If he were in AA, he'd be playing in front of 3, 000 hometown fans per game. In South Bend, it's over 80, 000

He was picked in the 36th round and was simply drafted for athletic ability. Lots of people think he will never even sniff the majors. Being drafted to the NFL is much different than being drafted in baseball. Most NFL draft picks make it to the NFL, most mlb draft picks never make it.

That may have been the craziest way to Lose a  game I ever saw.
