USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that Matt Kemp is "being made available" by the Padres.

The FA will be very weak. The Angels will not be able to better the club much there. So a trade will need to be made. The Angels don't have prospects so there goes the idea of either promotion or trading young talent to get young talent. A player like Kemp is a great option. They will be able to greatly improve the open spot in OF. Then ask for prospects if the Padres expect the Angels to take on most of the contract. You can look at it as the Angels buying prospect to boost the farm. I see it as a Win/Win.

that's what the smart orgs are doing, i.e. the dodgers.

its brilliant use of ownership funds.

too smart for the halos though, but would be great way to build the farm back up and stay competitive while keeping trout.

Really? How has that worked out?

Dodgers had to sell their rights to TWC in order to pay for those trades which has made the games not watchable for most of the fanbase.

Dodgers let Greinke go and replaced him with Kazmir because their budget is maxed.

They still can't put together a decent bullpen.

I like Ortega in the outfield.

Hell no, unless they're eating all of his salary, even then I'm skeptical. Guy's lost a step or two, looks like he's running in syrup out there now, he's horrible defensively, and it's only going to get worse. If Arte's willing to break the bank and finally spend some money with Weaver/Wilson's contracts being done this year , and Hamilton's contract off the books next year, wait for free agency in the upcoming years or sign a big time Cuban player who's exempt from the international signing restrictions.

Just what this offense needs, another guy who can't get on base. The Angels lineup doesn't have enough of those types already. That should help improve their run production for sure!

Okay, let me make sure I'm doing this right.

"I agree"

The funny part here is that the Padres and indeed even the dodgers couldnt even give him away, now suddenly everyone was wrong and he will cost a fortune, though with the Dodgers otehr woes i dont see them moving him  now.
Cant wait till the same thing happens with Calhoun.

JD Martinez signed for 5 yrs/110m.

It was considered insane to think about bringing in Martinez because Kole was here.

Obviously Kole would have been traded so the net add to payroll would have been about $12m per year (for 2018 and 2019).

Too much money!

But we got Kole baby!

No to Martinez, he bats right handed!
