A-Rod retiring after 2017 season

I don't get it. Have some people on here never had attractive women pick up the soda/beer to let you sip, then feed you popcorn, sourpatch kids or hot tamales at a movie and/or sporting event?

I'll tell you one thing, mine were a lot hotter and probably kinkier than Cameron Diaz...

was gonna mention that, but didnt know if anyone was going to agree. 500 mill ahould land you something far hotter than cameron doaz.

Arod was a beast. Arguably the player of his generation. Yes, he cheated, but that was his generation, every one of them did (including some of the sacred cows on here who were never accused). That said, he was unlikable as hell. Going back to when he threw jabs at jeter when he was still a mariner. Fake as hell, and it was easy to see through it. IMO, he earned the hate. And he deserved to get slapped when he gave that interview in his prissy purple sweater.

I hope that he hits enough home runs to end up tied with Bonds for career totals.

That way we can agree that they were equally good HR hitters, and spend our time arguing about which one was a bigger douche bag.

That all makes sense, but some people just genuinely enjoyed watching him play the game of baseball. A-Rod in his prime was an extraordinary talent and was fun to watch. Same thing for Bonds. People forget baseball is entertainment just like any other sport. Just because you like a player on the field doesnt mean youre openly supporting every single choice he makes in his life.

In point of fact, he's the greatest infielder that any of us have ever seen. In the history of the game, only a few even approach what he has done on the field. Cobb, Wagner, Hornsby, maybe. And he's played in a more difficult era. Better pitching, more traveling, etc.

I'm disappointed in his PED use, but so many in baseball (yes, even ones that weren't on The List) were using that I just have to move on from all that. I believe Bonds and Clemens should get in the Hall. A-Rod, too.

I could care less about his off the field antics. Thank God no one ever judged my work by what I was doing in the 70s, while on weekends.

Nice try Cali but we all know your pimple face hasn't had a date since A-Rod was last busted for PED's.

This will be a weird transition, but I think there is a parallel here. For those of you who play softball in leagues. What do you think of guys that use illegal bats, the bats that are rolled or shaved? The use of those bats are prevalent in men's leagues not unlike PEDs were in MLB. I won't knowingly use one, but I did 15-20 years ago, but then I just decided if I wasn't good enough to compete with a legal bat then I am probably playing at the wrong level.

its a fair point to say he played in a tougher era. That said, he also benefitted from team supplied nutritionists, far better sports science specialists to help him train, and a pipeline in his youth that would exlipse any old timer. Not to mention steroids that he was able to pay top dollar for that are far more effective than what your local meathead at the gym uses.

It sounds funny to say, but literally, the guys you mentioned played when it was common to know people who lost family to polio, spanish flu, etc. And they were the children and grandchildren of people who grew up in the 1800s...when things like meat were a luxury.

The guys playing today are pampered compared to the old days, and the same will be said 20 years from now. The only supplement guys had until really the 70s was milk. A multivitamin maybe. So you have to ask, take any of the current guys on a talent level alone, send them back in time before weights, supps, meal prep guys, etc were around and wonder if they would doninate, or be just another guy.

I havent looked at his defensive stats (nor, did I look at Wagner's, Cobb's or Hornsby's) but I recall him being a pretty good fielding shortstop. Was that not so? I'm too lazy to look it up right now, and compare it to the others. Great arm, as I recall, too.

I still think his stance at the plate is one that more players should emulate. ARod rarely looks foolish at off speed pitches. HIs swing and stance were altered slightly when he became a Yankee, but he can hit to all directions with his stance.

Here' an old article on ARod swing and stance, over the years.

OJ was a great running back. Who cares that he killed a waiter and some chick.
