Yeah, this is a good acquisition for Houston. Kazmir is putting together a pretty damn good season to date. Anyone know anything about the two prospects they gave up? I don't follow other teams mnors very much.

They gave up next to nothing too.  Complete salary dump by Oakland.  A fourth rounder and sixth rounder in A ball.

Neither of the guys they traded are any of their premium prospects, though the C prospect looks like he could become a solid player

They gave up no top prospects. Thanks, Billy Beane. Should make it easier on us acquiring a good hitter or two without giving up too much.

Nottingham's numbers are great this year.  

 

He's having a breakout season but it's the first time he's done well and he's doing in the Cal League, playing in a hitter's paradise for half of his games.

Houston has more need of offense than pitching, but good starting pitching goes a long way in the postseason.

Kazmir must be loving this deal. With him being traded, there no longer is draft pick compensation attached to him once he hits FA this winter. Should create more suitors for him and help him secure even more money

He beat us the last time we faced him, on June 21st.

And his three starts in July:

19.1 IP, 0.47 ERA. Looking good lately.

Whereas pitchers like Fernando Rodney openly blamed Butcher, young pitchers like Skaggs and Heaney have actually Butcher unprompted endorsements in the media. Now I'm not as sure which narrative to believe.
