The case for Shoemaker

Recommended Posts

Weaver deserves to be there. If anyone has earned it it would be him.

Ex aces move to other roles all the time. Case in point would be Lincecum, who has been back and forth from the pen for a couple- 3 years, as needed. Comparing Lincecum and Weaver is probably fair, but Bochy and Scioscia are too far apart to even mention together.

When Weave says he is ready, he will be back at the top of the rotation....no matter who actually deserves to be there.

Doggs lost another arm last night in Anderson!

They are ripe for a picking....The Giants are 3 games behind and knocking on their door.

They are down to Kershaw, Greinke and the rookie Bolsinger in their rotation.

bye-bye Santiago

I think this is the perfect time to move that Wilson contract. The rotation doesn't need him anymore and that $17-odd mil in extra room below the luxury tax threshold would sure help us fill an offensive hole or two in the offseason. I'm perfectly comfortable with a Richards-Heaney-Santiago-Shoemaker-Weaver rotation when we have Tropeano in reserve, Rasmus getting stretched out again, Tyler Deloach and Nate Smith putting up good numbers at AA and Rucinski as a fallback too. When you have a surplus of something and a weakness in another area, it makes sense to reduce that surplus to address that weakness and trading CJ is the most logical way to do that.

Throwing out current injury, out best pitchers rank as follows:

1. Richards 2. Heaney 3. Wilson 4. Skaggs 5. Santiago 6. Shoemaker 7. Tropeano 8. Weaver.

Let that soak in for a minute.

Even with Skaggs rehabbing and CJ being dealt, Weaver still wouldn't belong in this rotation. We can't cling to the past right now when this is a youth driven game. Make the hard move that needs to be made. Keep Weaver around in a long relief role unless he shows he can't hack it, in which case, give him a tear-filled goodbye.

Next year, this rotation should probably be Richards, Heaney, Skaggs, Santiago and Tropeano, with Newcomb and Ellis coming in late.

In my mind, that means in the offseason, Wilson, Weav and possibly Shoe need to be made available.

I don't see how you can say Santiago is our 5th best pitcher given what he has done this year. Makes no sense.

He broke the 52 year WS title drought for the S.F. Giants, and won two more times.

He must be doing something right.   The Giants aren't exactly an offensive juggernaut.

Their offenses get underrated because of the park they play in.  The only Giants team that posted a positive ERA+ or a negative OPS+ was the first Giants WS team when they posted an ERA+ of 117.  So while they may not have been a juggernaut it was their offense and not their pitching that carried them during the regular season.  Both the 2012 and 2014 SFG pitching staffs had negative ERA+ figures.  So far this year it's no different -- their current team has an OPS+ of 109, while their pitching staff sports an ERA+ of 95.

BTW, my biggest pet peeve as it relates to the postseason is the days off.   Teams play the season according to one set of standards then when it matters most they get to switch to a three man rotation.  It's lame.
