I find it hard to believe that Perez or Bandy couldn't exceed Butera's career .508 OPS.

The CS% isn't shabby though (career over 30%).

I hope he is one heck of a handler of pitchers.

Compared to Iannetta, yes he's a 'fine' pitch framer, but compared to Conger, he blows.

Most of our staff, especially Richards pitched, light years better with Conger behind the mound than he did with Iannetta (can't frame or block to save his life). I still maintain the Conger trade was a mistake.

That's a bit of an overstatement. Conger was a great pitch framer, but that's pretty much the limit of his capabilities. Only Richards and Shoemaker showed significantly better numbers with Conger. Everyone else was either too small a sample size or not enough of a difference to say they were "light years better" with one or the other.

 

Trading him could prove to be a mistake, but the Angels got a pretty nice return for him all things considered.

All I remember about Conger is him throwing to first while the runner steals second, pulling numerous ground balls to the 2b despite an extreme shift, and that time he got a walk off when he got hit. 

 

I liked Conger the person but he was not very good in the MLB level.
