Tiger assesed a 2 stroke penalty for an improper drop on the 15th hole yesterday. Instead of disqualifying him for submitting an innacurate scorecard the USGS commitee determined there was no intent to misslead.

There are not officials assigned every 10 yards on a golf course either. If football players were responsible for calling their own penalties or baseball players calling balls and strikes I doubt you would see much in the way of honesty.

There is a rules official following every group.  Additionally, the rules official was notified while he was still playing, they evaluated and decided he did not break the rule.  They only decided that he broke the rule based on his post match interview.

 

Which I get the rule and the two stroke penalty by the way, not saying Tiger shouldn't be penalized.  Just thought it was a funny tweet.

 

I do however think that it sucks.  Only because my weekend of golf viewing got a little less exciting.

The silly thing is that a TV VIEWER can call-in to the rules committee, and have a penalty assessed AFTER they've already ruled on it... Some golf rules are just retarded.  Seriously?!  Penalize a 14-year old AM for slow-play after they've allowed certain TOUR players to limp around for years?!  Wow...

 

Anyway, I expect this to really light a fire under Tiger.  He's still in the hunt after some bad luck, and will be motivated.

Me too.  They were saying the drop must be right where the ball was struck and sometimes when that happens the ball rolls into the divot.  I didn't know that!
