I am the first one to criticize the guy but he has been huge as of late.  He was hitting .175 eight games ago and now he's hitting .292.  17 for his last 33 with 5 double and a hr.  props.

I wonder if winter ball sets him back in the early season. Maybe it takes him a few ABs to adjust back to major league pitching.

Actually, he made a small adjustment in his stance. He had been crouching too low so he stood up a little more. Simple as that.

 

Since then he's been on fire.

Holy BABIP, Batman, Erick Aybar is hitting a completely unsustainable .409/.409 in his last 11 games. Not one single walk in that run which means hit or sit. I will never complain about a player on a hot streak but no change in batting stance is going to make a player a consistent .400 hitter. And history says Aybar is far from consistent.

This team is full of streaky hitters. Trout is the only one who seems to play consistent. I was hoping for Pujols to do the same,

Every team has tons of streaky hitters. It's what baseball is. It's why the season is 162 games not 16. We just see the angels more and think we're the only ones. It's also why it's silly to react to a cold week or even a month. It can change on a dime. Most players will over the course of a season be very similar to the last.

My problem with him is he fouls off 0-0 and 0-1 pitches like he's in the hole and is in defensive mode. Other than that I agree with trolldaddy, he's valuable to our team.

Aybar is the goofiest Angels player in a long long time.   He doesn't really ever hide what he's thinking or when he knows he's done something stupid -- the look on his face the other day after the play at 1st with Smith dropping the ball was pretty hilarious.  Mostly I'm just glad he seems to be defending really well again.
