Probably because he couldn't throw it for a strike to save his life. Last night he threw 2 good ones for called strikes that froze Hart. If he's finally got a good feel for it, it should help him elevate his game. That fastball is deadly vs lefties since it just tails away on them, and now with a slider he can get Righties chasing. Wonder how often we'll see him throw those 2 pitches % wise. Think he threw one changeup last night and it was that bad one that bounced in the dirt

if he can throw the change up and slider for strikes, basically at will, then he could immediately become an elite closer. i hope for the best.

The slider on which he struck out Hart was the best slider I have ever seen him throw. Much more movement than what he was throwing last year.

maybe he needs to mix his sweat with dirt, like pineda does. that would probably help him.
