I guess this is better than nothing.

 

In addition to home runs, the following plays will now be subject to review: ground-rule double; fan interference; stadium boundary calls; force play (except a fielder's touching on second base on a double play); tag play; fair/foul in outfield only; trap play in outfield only; batter hit by pitch; timing play (whether a runner scores before a third out); touching a base (only when appealed); passing runners and record keeping (ball-strike count to a batter, outs, score, and substitutions).

There's so much at stake. If 3-4 games with bad calls can cost you a playoff berth. It's worth the 3-4 minutes per game it may take to review and overturn.

Interesting that they include force plays but not at second during double plays. I guess to protect the MIF'ers they are just going to keep allowing the neighborhood play.

like replay and that they can get the calls correct. do not like the extended time it may take to finish a game if there are numerous reviews. Some of these games last way too long we are talking to you Red Sox vs Yankees.

To answer your question...

 

The on-site officials will not make the call, however. All reviews will be conducted at the Replay Command Center at MLBAM headquarters in New York. Two additional four-man umpiring crews will be hired and umpires will be rotated through New York to review video feeds. Every ballpark will have a designated communication location near home plate. There, the crew chief and at least one other Major League umpire will have access to a hard-wired headset connected to the Replay Command Center. The decision of the replay official in New York will be final.

Truth. Same thing should be implemented into the BWAA.

Why would they only allow challenges up to the 6th inning? It seem that being able to challenge in the 9th is more important than 1-6

Probably for the same reason the NFL doesn't allow coaches to challenge plays in the final 2 minutes of a half.
