George Kottaras or Brett Hayes won't make the Royals as a backup to Sal Perez, should look into trading for one of them.

Ya, I think Kottaras is one of the few guys out there who might become the victim of a roster crunch that's actually kind of interesting.

It would be weird to me for the Royals to pick Hayes over him though, but then again, Royals!

Although I just noticed Kottaras's career 16% CS , which is pretty Hester-esque. Don't know if they would go after another guy with throwing problems.

Hayes is better at throwing, but still looks like AAAA roster chum.

Shouldn't it be a concern that even a marginal catcher doesn't improve with Scioscia as a tutor? Shouldn't he be a manager that can actually make catchers better? And yet Mathis seems to be the only catcher who suggests Scioscia made him better.

Maybe what Scioscia actually wants is to be a player/coach.

I have wondered why our catchers at best stagnate under a manager who played the position at the major league level. As far as Mathis goes, if Scioscia improved him, I don't want to know how much he would have sucked otherwise.

What's the ETA until Scioscia forces Dipoto to trade for the CERA King?

He's probably keeping a close eye on Mathis's injury situation.

Speaking of which, I can't believe no one on the team is wearing those patches Scioscia hand stitched to honor Jeff.

The Angels are said to like Chris Snyder and Ramon Hernandez with ex-Angel Bobby Wilson, in camp with the Yankees, an interesting possibility, tweets Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times. MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez adds Rod Barajas and Wil Nieves, both with the Diamondbacks, and Brett Hayes and George Kottaras, both with the Royals, as other possibilities.

It would be pretty amusing if after all this, we just ended up with Bobby Wilson again.

And a Rod Barajas Fun Fact: He threw out 6% of basestealers in 2012, John Hester was "all the way" up at 14% for comparison.

There's nothing interesting about Bobby Wilson coming back to catch for the Angels. He's terrible offensively and he's not good defensively.

I don't really want him back because I don't find any of the names we've heard particularly appealing because they're mostly bad, but considering they're pretty much stuck digging through the league's recycling bin, I wouldn't hate if the guy they dug out of there was Wilson again.

We know exactly what Wilson is, and it's not good, but neither are the other guys who have been mentioned.

And for whatever it's worth, this ranking of catcher defense for 2012 has Wilson pretty high up, with Chris Snyder at an identical mark as Hester very close to the bottom and Ramon Hernandez even further down.
