We're having an unusually mild July here in Bixby Knolls. After a balmy 98 last Friday, temps are back down to the mid-to-high 80's.

Downright chilly.

September/October should be a killer, though.

I don't know man. I was at the new library site over on Atlantic a couple hours ago and it felt pretty damn hot.

Just another 100 degree day here...tomorrow's the same..and the next day, and the day after that. Noaa discussion indicates that the high might not be pushed out until mid August.

The majority of
the models, however, keep the upper level ridge anchored over central
California through next Thursday. If so, there will be little if any
airmass change over the CWA for the next 7 days. If you can picture
this high pressure ridge as a tall mountain of very warm air, you get
the idea of how difficult it is to move it out of the way. In truth,
it would take a fairly strong upper level eastern Pacific trough to
kick this ridge out of the Great Basin. The ensembles suggest this
will not happen until maybe the 10th of August.

ouch..

to top that off:

In addition to the heat, the airmass residing over central California
has become stagnant. Smoke aloft from the Soberanes wildfire in
Monterey County has become trapped underneath the upper level ridge
where it will likely remain for many more days. Several pilot reports
indicate that this layer of smoke is between 5500 feet and 7500 feet.
This is certainly a health concern for residents

We're just entering our "nice" time of year here. Mid-September through early November is beautiful; then late November through March is an ice, snow, and wind-fueled shit show; April is usually awesome; and May-August is like having a demon sit on your face.

The only other time since the 1870s, that there was this kind of drought in SoCal was a 6 year stretch from 1957-1963.  And even then, one of the years in between produced almost 20 inches of rain.

Never, eeeever has there previously been 5 straight years of single digits precipitation.         Until now, and with a LaNina lurking, just marvelous (in best Dirty Harry).

Look on the bright side AO.  I think Texas was in a massive drought.  To the point that they were feeding their cows candy.  Now they are underwater.  Advantage, Florida.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume it's happened before, just not since we've been keeping records of that stuff.

Good demon, like Sofia Vergara, or bad demon, like Kim Kardashian?
