Masahiro Tanaka

"Several clubs expect that pitcher Masahiro Tanaka will look to join an MLB team this offseason, according to Badler, which confirms what we've heard in recent months. The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder has put together a sterling season this year for the Rakuten Golden Eagles, compiling a 1.20 ERA across 158 innings with 130 strikeouts and just 22 walks. With an arsenal that includes a low-90s fastball and two plus secondary offerings - including a splitter that grades out at a 70 on the 20-80 scouting scale - some scouts project him as a potential No. 2 starter that could help a team immediately, Badler reports."

" throwing his fastball comfortably in the low 90's, although hitting 96 at times, along with with a low 80's slider, and a high 80's splitter. Tanaka has easily been the best pitcher in the Japanese League for a couple years now so the interest should be extremely high for Mr. Tanaka."

He's at a young age of 24 with a good pitchers frame to go along with a nice fastball and 2 plus secondary pitches. He's exactly what we need

Not bad.  Going to be an expensive post.

Lot's of miles in high school and the pros.  But the numbers are there.

Of course, this little tidbit might be why he's being posted early.  Since he still looks like he has 3 years left before FA'cy.

A memo from the commissioner's office earlier this year informed MLB clubs the two leagues were discussing possible changes to the system. Sources tell Badler that one potential new provision could be a cap to the posting fee, which could see more money funneled to players rather than the Japanese team and would also allow MLB to count more dollars against the luxury tax.

Glad we are on top of it though.

Badler's article reveals that both the Rangers and Yankees have sent top scouts to Japan to watch the 24-year-old pitch, and could be the favorites to sign him.  However, they're not the only teams keeping tabs on the righty as the Red Sox and Twins have also been connected.

If this guy turns out to be a true #2 starter then it's the best and maybe only chance the halos will have of acquiring a player of that caliber perhaps for the next 2-3 years.  I hope they take a really hard look at this guy.

+1....and any of the Cuban defectors out there waiting for clearance....farm system is thin, FA market this winter is thin, seems to be something to consider....considering Kendrys was a good pick up, it's not like we've bombed in the international market when we've jumped in....
