The Official 2024 Major League Baseball Thread

The Rockies have set an MLB record by trailing at some point in all 31 of their games.

In uniform news, Nike is going to address issues with pants, mismatched uniform pieces, uniform tops excessively collecting sweat, and the size of the lettering on player name plates, which makes the uniforms look like cheap replicas. The changes will take place no later than the beginning of the 2025 season.

I decided to take a look at what I've noticed but wasn't sure about and that is plate discipline. The eye test says some guys are not so jumpy at the plate, that they can work counts even if the results are not immediately there.

Last year was a complete disaster and every metric showed it but one stat I decided to do a comparison with is pitches per plate appearence. The Angels were ranked 19th, below league average and not surprising because of the mercenary lineups due to injury.

This year, so far, they are ranked 3rd with a pitch to plate appearence of 4.04. Individually Mike Trout was ranked 2nd at 4.56 for the league.

Trout leds the team but notable was Rendon at 4.36 and  Moniak, that can't seem to buy a hit, is 3rd at 4.33. Sano has been pretty good, 4.17 and right behind him is Jo Adell at 4.15.

League average is 3.89.

It's early, not much can be concluded from the data, how much is noise but on the surface it looks as though overall the team is approaching their at bats with a little better pitch recognition. Now if they can only put a bat on some of those more often they might just improve on runs scored which is currently below league average.

At this point I could not name a single player on the A's roster.

With Trout and Rendon out, that's what all non Angel fans say about the Angels.

Ohtani now leads the majors with 11 home runs.

Wonder why he didn’t want to keep his talents here

Because the Angels weren't going to pay him $750 million.
