My concern is that they try to do too much this year, fail, lose Ohtani, and then are overall in a weaker position heading into the next one to three years.

A likely outcome, one approach to minimize the impact would be to rent a pitcher that seems likely to sign here or trade for one that has control.  Or go over the tax so make acquisitions less expensive prospect wise.

Yep.  My biggest fear is that the Angels decide to add rather than sell, then completely go in the tank once they get to the really tough part of the remaining schedule.  Basically getting false hope from this stretch of the schedule.

That part arrives Friday, with 25 straight games against teams over .500.

Focus on acquisitions controlled through 2024, and then go back under the tax threshold in 2025, after which go back above it in 2026 and 2027, and back below it in 2028.   No serious penalties, just tax paying and a little int’l slot money lost.

They are two random dudes who I would bet $50 you'd never heard of until this trade was announced.

Decent numbers at AAA this better than Herget, Weiss and a few others halos have thrown out there this season. Yes you are right but Red Sox did ok in deal. Kike 3 hits first game back. Dodgers always improve at deadline. Big reason year after year in playoffs.

IMG_2869.thumb.jpeg.3e1663716f008316be7ba53b06999800.jpegI was brainstorming a trade that would never happen. But imagine Arte was amped up by being within striking distance of the playoffs was willing to shell out a bunch of money and the padres became sellers.

something along the lines of Snell, Hader and Machado for some low level minor leaguers. That machado contract is disgusting so we get a closer and a really good starter for almost no prospect capital. Machado has been hitting better and can fill in 3rd base until Rendon gets back and then moves to second base when Rendon is back. Drury slides to 1st. Obviously having Rendon and Machado on the same team would be really bad and that Machado contract is LONG. I forgot Rendon’s contract is only 3 more years, granted it’s $35 million a year for the next 3 but time flies….

I know before you roast me and say this is a mlb the show type trade, but it’s my day off and I’m bored. And if we want to continue to rebuild the minor league systems all while acquiring good major league players it’s going to take money…

i don't know why perry didn't trade them kike hernandez. sleeping on the job, i guess.

If Minasian traded for the players AW fans think he should have traded for every time, he'd be making 500 trades a season.
