The Official 2023 MLB Trade Deadline Thread

As of today here are the Teams in each league that have a shot at the Wild Card. With 10 days to go until the Trade Deadline.

Perry can only make some calls to Guage where other organizations feel they're at. And possibilities as they fall out.

While also receiving calls on Ohtani...

Big next 2 series (Pirates & Tigers) we sweep both I think he will make some moves for another right handed starter and at least 1 bullpen guy to help out Estevez.

We've got to sweep these next 2 out before heading to Toronto! It's going to be a tough Month! They pretty much did it to themselves since that debacle in KC bullpen let down.

Saw that the Cardinals have Willson Contreras “on the block.”

Spitballing a crazy idea that probably won’t happen: some deal around Willson Contreras for Tyler Anderson. There’d be other pieces and cash involved, but that’d be the premise of the trade.

Angels had interest in Contreras in the offseason and the Cardinals need pitching. Could use Contreras at 1B, some C. And if Ohtani leaves, he could DH next tear

So why would they want Tyler Anderson, then?

I like it but I’d probably prefer the pitching depth to catching depth, especially if that catcher is a defensive liability. And having him for 4 more years isn’t ideal as we will have catchers, 1st baseman and DH options. But I love versatile depth.  Now if they included one of their outfielders or relief pitchers that haven’t blossomed yet…..

I know he’s a FA, but getting Flaherty back would at least maintain depth in rotation.

Biggest issue with Contreras…if he was so poor behind the plate there, why would we mess with that here? I guess he could become our 1B next year or DH if no Shohei.

Not terribly worried about Anderson’s contract at the end of the day. He’s cheap enough to DFA or flip as a salary dump if push really comes to shove.

I guess Anderson wouldn’t have to be in a deal.

Since there were reports that the Angels were interested in Contreras in the offseason, I was trying to think of a potential deal that could be made there.

It seems like a good buy low opportunity, where you can get the Cardinals to take a contract back or pay down some of his contract.

But it seems like moving that much money would be more of an offseason deal.

In this hypothetical scenario, I was thinking you primarily use him at 1B and he could replace Wallach as the backup catcher until O’Hoppe is back.

He’s still a good offensive player, and the Angels can use more of those guys.

Let's say we're buying, how much salary do you think we can add, both to this current season's payroll, and beyond?  Of course if we're buying we're certainly planning to extend Ohtani, so consider how his extension would play into that.

It would be best not to go over because of future years with Ohtani but without reinforcements it’s going to be difficult to even make the playoffs.  I’d say go up to the first limit if the deal calls for it.  Stroman, Bellinger and a couple relievers should be possible.

Long-term? He won’t have a home at catcher, Rendon/Trout/Ohtani will have DH quite a bit, Schanuel will hopefully be at 1B soon…
