My concern is that he won't be exclusively looking at owners who will keep the team in Orange County

They won't leave Los Angeles Metro.

Leaving the 2nd largest market in sports even as the second team, will not happen in today's world.

But Long Beach, Carson, etc. all options.

Don't think so either but weirder things have happened

Is it April 1st???  Too good to be true!  Come on down Steve Ballmer.

$98 billion net worth says “Come on down, you’re the next Halos owner!”

That’s 24 times Arte Moreno’s net worth.

He already has sports team ownership background.

Guggenheim vs Steve Ballmer would spice up SoCal baseball, and hopefully put the Halos in the right direction ongoing.

If not Ballmer, Samueli and his $71 billion net worth (18 times Arte Moreno’s) would be a solid 2nd option.

Both have roots in SoCal.

Edit: Samuelis are worth $7.1 billion.

Ballmer all the way!

True. The challenge that new ownership will have with moving to LA/LA county will be proximity of the fan base. Granted, that didn't stop the Chargers but the Chargers aren't playing 81 home games/year. There would be so much unknown with the Anaheim/stadium land situation that it's impossible to predict. What's not impossible to predict is that the Angel's fan base is highly concentrated in Orange County and the IE. Any new owner would have to tear off the band-aid of leaving that fan base for Los Angeles and begin the process of establishing a sizable new one in Dodger territory.

It won't happen, especially in baseball. Local TV contracts are everything and the LA market is huge. That's why the Big 10 took USC and UCLA but haven't made the move for other big markets with big money like Seattle and the Bay Area. People don't realize the LA TV market (13 million people) would be the 5th largest state in the country (just ahead of Pennsylvania). Even in the NFL where there are only local tv contracts for preseason, had two teams move to LA in the last decade. No one is paying LA prices to move a team out of the LA market.

Anyway, I'd put Samueli as the odds on favorite and he'll keep the team there.

I remember in another thread someone said that Arte's family had no interest in taking over the franchise.  If that's the case it makes sense for him to look to sell this off season if possible as he's 76 and the next owner can deal with whether to extend or trade Shohei.  Hopefully a sale of the team sends a better message to the players than the last decade of futility with Moreno as the one constant.

I'm completely ignorant when it comes to the details of the Samueli family's finances but would they have the interest or financial ability to buy?

I would think it would be a partnership that would buy the team much like the Dodgers. Individual owners are going the way of the dodo.

Edit: Just saw @Hubs’s post.

Samuelis might actually be a possibility, not sure how I feel about it though.  As a big Ducks fan, they are finally allowing the Ducks to go through a proper rebuild and have some promising talent in the pipeline to allow them to compete soon.  They let Bob Murray stick around as GM way too long though, better late to fix a mistake than never though.  Their scouting and development is also some of the best in the NHL and they are known to be very hands off.

They definitely don't have FU money though like Ballmer or some of the other management groups.
