Just mind boggling, Naughton was a starter in the minors, and yet Maddon hits for him in a scoreless game after only 72 pitches.

And to compound it, he sends up Wong to hit for Naughton?

But it is par for the Maddoning course.

But the Padres have to score a run for it to be a perfect game. 

I doubt Padres fans are enjoying this at the moment, either.

In 1995, he pitched 9 perfect innings and gave up a leadoff double in the top of the 10th after the Expos had gotten him a run. (If that's the game of which you are thinking.)

To be fair, Naughton hasn't thrown more than 58 pitches in a game going back to July 27th.

Topped out at 58 his last two outings, only 14 IP in his last month-plus...
