Perry Minasian doesn't get enough blame for building an atrocious bullpen

The Angels only have 1 dependable reliever on their roster, and it's Raisel Iglesias. The next "best" relievers have been Cishek, Mayers, and Watson, and none of them can be counted on.

He isn't even trying to make the bullpen better. He has just stuck with bad veteran relievers (Claudio, Guerra) and has shifted failed starters to the bullpen (Bundy, Quintana).

This was a team that was supposed to contend for the playoffs, and he neglected the bullpen outside of Iglesias. Everyone knew they needed to add to it in the offseason, yet he did nothing to improve it after Iglesias.

The Blue Jays have/had a bad bullpen, but they've at least tried to fix their bullpen. They cycled through a bunch of different relievers with good stuff and have made trades to bolster the bullpen, acquiring guys like Cimber and Richards for barely anything.

Seriously though, the bullpen is starting with an entirely clean slate in 2022. Not a single carryover more than likely. Maybe Mayers.

And wouldn't you know it, there's some interesting arms they can start with.  Jose Suarez and Jaime Barria for length (if they aren't in the rotation or otherwise dealt), and some optionable minor leaguers like Andrew Wantz, Aaron Skewers, Aaron Hernandez, Oliver Ortega, or maybe even Davis Daniel.

Those aren't the guys you build around in 2022, but they offer some extra depth.

Building a Bp is tough and one of the hardest thing to build. There's a reason why teams are always looking for Bp help. Most chance the best way to build a bp is internl (yanks, Red sox..etc) and than a add a peiece ot two to it.

It can be more manageable with solid scouting, effective data analysis and smart people.

No faith that the Angels have all of the necessary components for this trend to change.
