Especially the Yankees who have torched him for years.

That's because he was mostly throwing his low 90's fastball. He now throws his premier slider and changeup more than his fastball which is why he's seeing tremendous results.

Also, Simmons looks healthy to me.

Yea Chuck you didn’t watch the game last night.  He didn’t look good running the bases but he did make that dynamic play in the 9th.

Chuck you know the Yankees fans would tar and feather Cashman if he traded for Bundy. Simmons ankle still bothers him and it was even mentioned by Terry Smith during yesterday’s game.

I will admit the majority of Jeter's career is a little bit before my time, I only remember seeing good things about his defense because east coast bias and highlights

He would jump in the air and make throws, often unnecessarily, making some of his plays seem more difficult than they were. He never had great range, and he couldn't carry Simmons' glove. There is no comparison defensively.

Yes Simmons has a great glove but the Jeter vs Simmons career comparison doesn't hold water.

Jeter played in 158 lifetime postseason games.

RoY

WS MVP

5 Gold Gloves

5 Championship rings

14 time All Star

Postseason  numbers  .308  /  .374  /  .465  /  .838

Playing in post season games does not mean you are a great player.

Gold Gloves are based on offensive numbers more than defensive metrics

Championship rings do not mean you are great player

All Star appearances are a popularity contest

What are the career numbers for Simmons and Jeter outside of the playoffs?

If playoffs were used to define greatness, then Mike Napoli should be a legend and used a comp.

Good I can’t wait to see Simmons in the HoF.

Sure let’s compare.

Trollzone, go back to the start of the conversation. Angel said the Yanks wanted another sweet glove like Jeter’s. That comparison is absurd, because Jeter was a mediocre fielder whose rep far exceeded his defensive ability.

No one compared their careers,  their hitting ability, or even suggested Simmons is the better overall player.

So what the heck are you going on about?

You answered your own question with the very first word of your own post.

Jeter’s glove and Simmons glove don’t belong in the same conversation. But if people are going to compare the two players than do a full comparison. Simmons is having his worst offensive numbers in his career and he’s only 30 years old. Jeter wasn’t the best defensively but he certainly had a more successful baseball career than 95% of anyone who ever played the game. The Jeter hate is ridicules. The guy was a winner on and off the field.
