Years ago, we kept arresting the wrong woman for a warrant. Like 3 times in like 6 months or something like that

Someone (not us, the courts or someone else) input the innocent womans info in the system, with her license number, birthday etc etc etc in the system. The suspect was exact same name, and lived like 3 blocks away.

I dont know if she sued or not. Just remember being told in briefing several times "dont arrest this lady, shes the wrong one"

I had gotten a speeding ticket outside of Bridgeport, CA and paid it, etc. Years later I got pulled over in Reno, NV and next thing I knew every squad car they had start closing off the road and now I am on the ground in the middle of the street with shotguns to my head.  Since I got a ticket in CA and this was NV I guess they had no clue what the offense was and read it as I had just committed an armed robbery. After they tore my truck apart and found no weapon or loot they had a powwow in the street for an hour as I was in the back of the cop car.  Sitting in there I can hear them over the radio trying to figure out what I am wanted for and then they came up with a fugitive from justice.  So a bench warrant or something I guess. Off to jail on Friday afternoon and Monday was a holiday. Tuesday morning comes and I am not called to see the judge and asked the jailer and he says you are the parole violator, you will be here a long time.  Panic sets in until I calmed myself down and concluded I can't violate parole when never been to prison. Hour later same douchebag jailer yells at me get out of here.  Luckily we had an assistant DA friend and him and my wife were working on it.  Some clerk credited the perp with my ticket paid and gave me his rap sheet, I guess.  Didn't say if he was the same name, they were lips sealed on any info once they freed me. Took my friend to Harrah's steak house for helping me and he said what happened to me is their biggest fear, fucking up your name in the system.

I thought of suing but thought every time I leave Green Cheek for a beer is someone going to be following so let it be.

Sorry for the long story.

Thats crazy. I wonder how often it happens, in all honesty. Not "on purpose", but someone either lazy or just human error screwing up data entry.

Ill have to think about it for a minute to remember who (because I havent traveled in so long), but someone I know is on the terror watch list for the same reason, and gets flagged everytime he flies

My dad got a red light ticket for a car that wasn't even registered to him, and whos car was registered in the other side of LA.  All because he had the same name as was on the registration.  Oh, and a female was driving it also.  So of course we contested it, and the traffic officer tried to clear it.  The judge tried to clear it.  The bailiff tried to clear it.  And yet it still went to collections.  Took like 3 months to get it off.
