SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19

Recommended Posts

I get a Covid test every Tuesday and so do coworkers that are allowed in the office. We went over a year with not one case of covid infections.

We are in a crunch this week, the final show of Bachelorette which is 3 hours is being delivered the same week as the first episode of Bachelor in Paradise is being reviewed before audio layback. Lots of work.

And my assist tested positive yesterday. He just finished a producer watchdown of the Bette (our nickname) show, got tested on site and was instantly escorted out of the building once he grabbed his laptop.

I have to give him credit. He went home and remoted in to finish what was needed to make a screener for the audio house. He was up until after 2am since remote work is slow as hell.

He is out for 14 days minimum so I have no backup to help with all of the time consuming junk like delivery files and it forces me to go to Burbank instead of work from home.

A few months ago I rode his ass to get vaccinated and he did. Now he is thanking me from his sofa as he sips water and takes ibuprofen for the aches. Hopefully it goes no further than flu symptoms.

Shit man. Sounds like a rough time all around.

This is a problem that many just want to ignore or are ok with

MCALLEN, Texas — A border city in south Texas declared a local disaster this week as it struggles to respond to surging cases of the coronavirus among migrants as thousands are released by the Border Patrol onto the street every week.

Last week, a record-high 7,000 migrants were released in downtown McAllen, where they were immediately tested for the coronavirus through a city contractor. More than 1,500 people tested positive over the past seven days, according to a city document issued Wednesday, compared to a total of 7,000 confirmed cases over the past five months. Those who test positive are told to quarantine for two days but are ultimately released into the public.

How many decades has it been where Mexicans have jumped the border? This isn't some new phenomenon. Some we throw back and some we keep for cheap labor. Also to make street tacos. I love me some street tacos.

Sounds like a solid plan to me

This is paranoia on your part fed by media that is hoping for an international plague so they can write about it.

Still holding strong at a 98% of Mexicans still in Mexico.

This one is in the bag.

7000 Mexicans in a country of 350 million.  That’s not a pandemic.

I'm more concerned about 7000 infected mexican immigrants set free into a local community. That has the potential to do some serious damage.

they shouldn't have been allowed in to the country while still infected. It's a pretty irresponsible act by whoever made the decision, especially coming at a time when there is a rising spike in the number of new cases (2700 in LA county today, most since February) and we're still trying to contain and control the spread. Absolutely irresponsible.

One of the key components of evaluating the dangerousness of a virus is to know it’s R0 number.  Essentially how many people the average infected person is expected to infect themselves.  We all know this, I’m sure we discussed it on page 14 right about when Blarg was still trying to convince us the toilet paper shortage had nothing to do with some flu in China.

Seems like the media just thinks we’re all fucking retarded now because the R0 of the Delta is never mentioned.

So I looked it up and found that Covid OG (of which I am a survivor of, if you weren’t aware), has an R0 of about 2.4.  Delta is upward of 8.  That’s damn near the top of the virus class.

So as Larry has admitted, anyone who isn’t vaxxed is going to get it soon if they already haven't.

The good news is that with a R0 like that herd immunity is coming real quick and this “4th Wave” should be over be mid-fall.

As long as it doesn’t infect kids better going back to school and it doesn’t mutate to become vaccine and recovered immunity resistant (which i read somewhere that it is unlikely given the requirements in the mutation and the strength of vax and recovered immunity) then we are close to the end of this nonsense.

If someone wants to hear about my balls dipping in the toilet, just PM me.

Look for a PM shortly

Spot on, though not so sure about herd immunity. It could happen I guess.

Anybody that's not vaccinated who was betting on the people that are vaccinated or have a history of COVID to act as some sort of shield for them are not making a good bet. Vaccinated and delta infected individuals may be just as contagious as nonvaxxed individuals during the first couple of days of infection.

Not a woe is me statement, but I'm going to spend today trying to move patients around our hospital/unit so that we can convert back to a COVID unit. It sucks, but been here and done that. Our hospital has made an internal decision to halt many elective surgeries due to capacity issues. The same goes for other hospitals in the area. We're not doing this as a result of a mandate by the governor, as we did before, but because it's the only way for us to accommodate the increased proportion of beds occupied by COVID patients that require acute care.

I really felt like we'd be past COVID with even somewhat good vaccination rates and common sense, but the delta variant is a game changer. I don't know how long it'll last or whatever, but we'll just have to deal with it.

Also, keep an eye out for a PM, @cals.

If you guys just turned off the media you wouldn't have to do any of this. You could probably even take the day off and go to Six Flags.
