i think most would say its all about the money, and while im sure thats largely true, these are still competitive men that want to win.  At some point the money isnt the only motivation.  You have enough, your family is set, you start thinking about legacy etc... 

When were talking about FAs more often than not these guys have already made a lot of money.  And pending age im sure there is more to be made but were not talking rookie contract here as this usually doesnt happen till 29-30ish age range.

I personally think a chance to win, and play competitive baseball, makes a difference.  and along side that the direction of the teams.  If we were to pick another rookie type manager it would send the wrong message, that were not really looking to take the next step. 

For us, right now, Maddon, or someone like him, is the exact message we need to send after an abysmal season that were putting the pieces back together and making a run.   

All things being equal. the money usually wins out, but when were talking about he difference between 30 or 31 million, there has to be more to it as thats really negligible at that point.
