Gavin Lux immediately got a hit.  I hate it so much that like every fuc*king Dodger prospect in the last 5 or 6 years turns out to be a player.

Next time we hear about him he'll be hitting into a game-ending DP in Game 1 of the NLDS

something to consider for next season.

Its a small sample size (6 starts) but Greinke has an ERA over 3.80 with the Astros. Which is not bad at all what for a guy making 24 mil, you'd expect better, and one of the biggest question about Greinke was how he'll adjust to the Al.

I'm not trying to be pedantic but, 24 mil is what the Astros are paying him.... his actual salary is 34.5 mil per year.

Yup Houston is on the hook for 24 mil, while the D'back are the hool for 10ish mil. Still, Houston payroll is becoming really thin. There projected to be over 190mil, and last think i think that want is a mediocre Greinke.

Over hype or substantive future stars?

The Dodgers are realistically one of the best team in baseball. And just keeping bringing in young talent year after year. Strings of consecutive rookies of the year. Mid season callups who dazzle or at least are almost all productive and find their way onto the roster.

This year alone, in a runaway playoff spot they have introduced five seemingly quality new players from their farm system.

Alex Verdugo, Will Smith, Tony Gonsolin, Dustin May, and now Gavin Lux.

The law of averages says they all won't be stars, but that team just keeps replenishing and builds up a perennial contender. And prospects with Dodger hype are always attractive on the trade market if necessary.

What do they do that separates them from most teams?

Money to some degree. But that doesn't produce the final product.

It would seem that they spare no effort in scouting, training, coaching, indoctrinating, their prospects in the 'Dodger way.' Rolling off an assembly line the way the classic Yankees did for decades and still do to some extent. Plus you add in the modern analytics departments, which the Dodgers highly value. Mystique may also be part of the equation. Especially in Latin America.

The Dodgers haven't had the greatest mangers for a while, and that may be partially responsible for post season failure. But they sure put good teams together year after year.

So you're saying we could trade Marsh for him...

I have no doubt Lux will be good but after getting two hits in his first two at bats he’s 1-11 since then. He struck out three times last night and hasn’t drawn a walk in three games.

Man, time flies...

Was reading an article talking about Carlos Correa and free agency.... Didn't seem like he had been around long enough for it to be a concern but.... Two years.   He's a free agent after the 2021 season..

It's going to be interesting to see how Houston handles all the coming free agents.

I think that's why they gave up so much for Greinke.  They're gonna try to hold it together for 2020 and 2021.

Springer is gonna cost about 17 or 18 mil next year and then he's done.  Along with Brantley, Reddick, Guriel, Peacock, Pressly
Then after 2021 McHugh, Correa, McCullers and Devenski, Verlander and Greinke are FAs
they've got almost 100m locked up into 3 guys the next two years.
Cole is gonna test FAcy and it's very very doubtful he returns.
They'll still have Bregman, Altuve, Alvarez and now Tucker for awhile
I don't see them sustaining a payroll of 170m forever

I think we can make a run at them starting next year.  Greinke is gonna turn into a pumpkin in 2020 and at some point Verlander is gonna start to decline.

Not that WAR means everything, but just to give you an idea of how valuable Cole is to their rotation, he's 5.6 wins of their 15.1 total.  Although they'll probably turn Aaron Sanchez into Morton and sign some scrub who will put up a sub 3 era.
