This is nothing, Jeff Passan published several boo bird articles about Ohtani going back to when he first announced he’d join the Angels.  Culminating with the gem where he talked to multiple “pro scouts” who described Shohei Ohtani as a “high school hitter”

He’s since stfu.  To his credit he also acknowledged publically that he’s a fuc*king idiot.

Imagine those scouts, must be nice to be that shitty at your job.

Amazes me how scouts are so wrong so often.

This is the stupidest line of thinking on this message board. Do you have any idea how many millions of boys play baseball every year around the world hoping to make it in MLB? Manny of these kids are being scouted a decade before they will reach MLB if they reach MLB at all? They do a really great freaking job if finding guys all over the globe. Plus they are relying on organizations to develope the talent they find.

When Chuck comes on here and bashes a single scout for saying Mike Trout will be Aaron Rowand instead of Mickey Mantle what he is saying is "This guy is an idiot for saying he thought this player would be among the top .000003 percent of players on the planet instead of the top .000001 percent of players on the planet. Or even if you want to limit it to minor league baseball players, you know what percentage of minor Leaguers play for a decade like Rowand did? You know how many accumulate 20+ WAR like Rowand did? He basically said he'd be in the top 5 percent of major Leaguers instead of the top .1 percent.

I'm sure we're all better at our jobs than that.

The sentiment is solid, but that is why we are fans.    We see things emotionally sometimes.

Even those of us that thought Ohtani would be a success didn't have him pegged right. I thought he'd be Justin Verlander on the mound and Eric Thames at the plate.

He's so much better than that with a bat in his hands, it's scary. And as far as him on the mound, there were glimpses. There were times he was completely unhittable, in a manner that I don't think Verlander ever was. But part of what makes Justin a future hall of famer is the fact that he's been so good, so healthy, for so long. I hope Shohei can have that sort of future on the mound. He certainly has the talent. His fastball, splitter, slider, curve are all pretty insane.

The verdict is in on Shohei Ohtani's bat and it's not good

He’s basically like a high school hitter because he’s never seen a good curveball,” the scout said. “He’s seen fastballs and changeups. And you’re asking a high school hitter to jump to the major leagues?”

Dude had a .347 OPS in Spring Training. Who wasn't worried? With that leg kick, he did looked as hopeless against major league pitching as Blash.

Does anyone know who was responsible for telling him to lose the leg kick? Was it Hinske? If so, I hope he got a significant bonus.
