The entire thing is a disaster waiting to happen. You don't even have to be one of the parties involved to place a lawsuit. So if I knew my neighbor drove someone to get an abortion I can sue them in and if I win get rewarded $10,000 and he has to pay my legal fees. If he wins he still has to pay his own legal fees.

Yeah that sounds dumb

It seems like an awfully dangerous precedent to set regardless of your view on abortion. If it stands Im sure we will see plenty more similar laws passed giving people standing to sue individuals and businesses over all sorts of issues, while taking the government out of the equation.

I'm no legal expert but this same logic can easily be used to effectively strike down the second amendment. It doesn't feel like much of a stretch to see it applied to the free practice of religion as well.

That pretty much sums it up.

It's a zero-sum game for the radical anti-abortion crowd. They think preventing just one abortion justifies whatever means necessary.

Where is your line as to where a position turns radical on this topic?

I'm all for common-sense abortion laws that make it incredibly difficult to obtain one in the latter half of pregnancy. Finding loopholes in the system to eliminate abortion before most women even know they're pregnant is a gigantic leap across the line.

My view on abortion has evolved over the years. I used to be in the "stop all abortions at all costs" camp because I believed that was the only legitimate Christian stance on the issue. But now I've come to see that it's more nuanced, more robust. Christians need to stop opposing abortion while also opposing addressing the systems of poverty and inequality that result in unplanned pregnancies and children who are allowed life but then neglected and abused. At the same time, liberals need to stop taking advantage of minority communities and treating abortion like it's a routine medical procedure.

Thanks for the reply Taylor.

Of course. I try to always reply to you. You're someone who converses in good faith, and I think we have a lot more similarities than differences. The similarities just aren't as fun to discuss.
