He needs to use the whole field and stop trying to hit home runs every single times up. He did that well in 2016, got on base at a good clip, and it resulted in his best season.  He's not a home run hitter.

Maybe you can email him your advice, or something. Pass on this knowledge that has obviously eluded him.

Agreed.  On a more positive vein it is amazing he has played defense this well through this offensive slump.  In fact I would say this has been his finest year playing defense so far.  Also, he and Trout communicate really well on balls hit in the RF gap, and are excellent at backing each other up.

Yes, that play yesterday had disaster written all over it and not only did they miss each other but Trout caught the ball.
