Angels Marketing Question

How have they not pushed Trout a lot more?!

Aaron Judge has passed him as the face of the MLB. Was Trout ever the face though ?

Judge is the face of Pepsi already...Judge is the face of the most popular video game...he has the most popular jersey.

its not like New York is that much bigger than LA. Wasn’t that the whole point of changing the name ? From Anaheim to Los Angeles.

yes the  Yankees Franchise and fan base is a lot bigger than the Angles, but trouts play and hardware was enough for the angels to push him on a national level.

Maybe this will be a factor when Trout has to make a decision on whether he wants to stay or not ?

Is his agent asleep at the wheel?

West Coast, white, doesn't do anything flashy unless necessary and isn't media friendly.

Mike Trout is the best player in baseball by a wide margin. But he is not the face of baseball because for the uninitiated fan, he's just another guy.

Just one girlfriend, lives in a small town. Goes hunting and fishing and cheers on the Eagles.

Not interesting enough.

New York is New York -- Anaheim isn't Los Angeles even if we're the Los Angeles Angels.

that's life.

Judge and Trout very similar in backgrounds in the sense both small town all sports stars who broke into MLB stardom very quickly.

Judge is from Linden, CA which is just northeast of Stockton/ Lodi (about 20 miles).  He's a small town guy now playing under the brightest lights.

Trout -- and our board folks here have seen both play - is without doubt the better all around player (I am assuming that's not even in dispute). Judge may have more power (and that's arguable) but Trout is an all around threat, hitting for an average, hits with power, speed, steals bases, runs the bases really well, plays stellar outfield and covers a lot of ground in the OF and has a pretty good arm to gun down runners on the base paths...........

But Judge gets the press and media attention............start spreading the news...............

You've got it completely backwards.  I'm sure Arte and Trout's agent would love it if he signed up for more national marketing deals.  Mike Trout just wants to do his own thing, and it is fucking awesome.  You are basically wondering why he doesn't sell a little more of his soul for money he clearly doesn't really want or need.

My oh my, Mike is just so good at being Mike. he would rather just spend time with family and friends than showing up at the hot spots and/or doing commercials. I had the pleasure of talking with Mike's parents last summer at John Wayne Airport and after that conversation, you knew Mike came from a great environment. Just a down to earth guy that doesn't know or want to be anything else. Play Ball, family and friends and that is about it.

The Yankees have been looking for a new "face of the franchise" since Derek Jeter retired. They found a young kid who crushed monumental home runs, until pitchers figured out his tendency to chase high fastballs. If he doesn't fix that, his time in the limelight will be a short one. He could be great, or another Dave Kingman, home run or nothing.

33 minutes ago, Jeff Fletcher said:

I've been reading this thing about MLB not marketing its stars for 20 years.

Maybe it's because baseball players make the most money just playing baseball?

Or that they play the most games so they don't want to give up their free time doing commercials?

Back in the day not even Kofax and Drysdale could negotiate a three year deal by teaming up and holding out together. The great 1966 holdout was met by Stonewall Bavasi and the Dodgers we're near the end of Spring Training before the deal was done. Both pitchers got raises but on one year contracts and not close to their demands.

Another interesting part of that negotiation was Bavasi refused to meet or talk with their agent. Bavasi said he would have opened a can of worms for every GM that would have to dicker for months over every "Humpty-Dumpty fourth string catcher."

And now here we are.
