The dude fixed whatever his issue was during the first half of the season and he's been on a roll over his last 9 games, looking like the Cy Young candidate from last season. 

If we took on his contract and gave up Grayson Long and Alex Meyer (or something else) would you do it?

I remember calling for him when I think it was Doc started that thread about under performing large contracts. His underlying indicators looked sound - maybe not top of the rotation sound, but better than anyone we have been throwing out there this year. It'd be nice to have a guy who we could count on for 200 better than league average innings. It's not like there is someone like that on the FA market.

But god i surely hope so we desperately need an Ace that can go out and pitch 7 innings every night, this bullpen is too good rn to keep letting our injury prone/ AAAA pitchers ruin it.

Not sure a team behind the Angels -- Mariners? -- wouldn't block the Angels with a waiver claim of their own. It's today (Thursday) or never as far as the waiver deadline goes. I think the salary is less of an issue than it used to be for the Angels. But it's NOT a non-issue.

i'd pass on Verlander because the angels need to avoid these past their prime 30 year olds with high contracts.  It's what got them into this mess in the first place.

Also i dont think Verlander makes them a serious contender anyway.

Verlander already cleared waivers. He'd be worth taking on the salary if it won't cost much in prospects

One thing with Verlander is he would be the one guy that you could feel confident pitching in a one game playoff.  The question is is that worth $60+ million for the next two years and a month.

You'd be getting him for more than just a playoff game this year....he was outstanding last year and, after a rough patch, has been good this year too....you'd hope he could give you another couple of good years....This says he's not going anywhere:

As much as id like it i think our more immediate need is a bat behind Trout far more than an arm.  We have guys coming back from injury and such that will help the depth, but this offense will get shut down hard by the 1s and 2s in the post if we make it without another bat.

Arte doesn't like long big money contracts, so two years plus a month to get an ace type pitcher in your rotation to help get the wild card and if secured, do something in the playoffs with a guy with frontline starter experience.
