Angels Official Website: Street shut down with rotator cuff strain

Recommended Posts

This is baseless because it seems like Street is a pretty good dude and would want to get back on the field, but I wonder how hard he's trying to come back knowing that he's not going to be the closer or even have a 'defined' role like he's always proclaimed is important.

In the end, we'll have shelled out about 30 mil for a guy that's gave us about about 115 ip over the course of about 3.5 seasons.  So not much value there.  Even though we gave up 4 players to get him and classically depleted farm depth, the guys we moved have been terrible.

I think knowing this is his walk year would make him anxious to prove to everyone he can still come in and get batters out

probably.  my accusation is actually pretty weak.

Although it wouldn't totally surprise me if Street hung up the cleats after this year.  I know he's 33, but he's got a ton of stuff going outside of baseball, he can't stay healthy and when he has, he's been largely ineffective.  He also likes being a closer.  Something he'll likely never be again.  He's made about 70 mil over the course of his career and likely gets something equivalent to a spring invite next year with his recent injury history (knee, shoulder).  Maybe he gets a mil from someone.  Not sure that's going to motivate him.

The two year extension he signed has been a bust but he was really good in 14/15 on two teams that were either in the playoffs (2014) or came very close to getting there (2015).....hard to complain about that....

Agreed. Its ended like crap, but i still think it was a good move. The offense dissapeared in 14, but shoring up the bullpen that year was a great move.
