Chicago sees spike in brazen robberies, other crimes; Dem mayor says ‘root causes’ are complex

In Chicago on Friday night, as many as a dozen suspects stormed into a store in the city’s Chatham neighborhood and grabbed as many items as they could carry, according to a report.

One security-camera image released by police shows four suspects behind the store’s counter, rummaging through drawers and grabbing displayed items. Another suspect stands on top of the counter and others fan out around the store, snatching merchandise.

Another image shows a suspect grabbing multiple items off a clothes rack.

All of the suspects got away and police are looking for them, FOX 32 reported.

During the past month or so, thieves have struck at least seven times at stores in the city’s most upscale neighborhoods, according to the station.

George Cardenas, a city alderman, says such incidents are part of a "crime pandemic" sweeping the city. That pandemic also includes a murder rate that is up 3% so far over last year and 59% over 2019, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

"If the solutions were easy, we would have solved the challenge long ago, but they are not. The root causes of community violence are deep, complex, and generations in the making."

— Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot

STEELE: Chicago pastor goes to extremes to end violence in his city

Chicago pastor goes to extremes to end violence in his city

Ten years ago, Pastor Corey Brooks tested his faith when he crossed the street from his New Beginnings Church and climbed onto the roof of a violence-plagued motel in the middle of a brutal Chicago winter. The pastor had become tired of the murders, drugs and prostitution that took place daily at the motel, which sat two blocks away from an elementary school. The pastor also had become tired of the deadly inaction from the city’s desensitized leaders; not even the Chicago Sun-Times’ ranking the pastor’s Woodlawn neighborhood as the most deadly was enough to stir them. So the pastor remained on the roof for 94 days through blizzards until he raised enough to purchase and demolish the motel. His faith paid off.

Brazen armed thieves loot exotics store, steal MILLIONS in merchandise

Armed smash-and-grab looters broke into a high-end exotic car dealership in Chicago, stealing millions of dollars in watches.

"We're here to run a legitimate business, not be a western shootout," Joe Perillo, co-owner of Gold Coast Exotic Motor Cars, told ABC7

Two men reportedly entered the dealership, which boasts a showroom of Lamborghinis and Bentleys, around noon on Saturday. One man was armed with a gun and stood by the entrance of the dealership while the other man used a hammer to smash display cases and allegedly stole about eight luxury watches.

"He was smart enough not to raise the gun, because my people had guns," said Perillo. "If he raised that gun, he would have been shot, we’d probably be in court defending ourselves."

The watches were stolen in a matter of seconds and worth millions of dollars, according to the store.

"30 seconds, and they know, the criminals know," Perillo told ABC 7.

About 10 customers, including children, were in the showroom at the time of the robbery. Some employees tried to chase the suspects, but to no avail.

Perillo added that Mayor Lori Lightfoot and District Attorney Kim Foxx must hold the perpetrators to account.

"The mayor and Kim Foxx have to take a firm stand. It is wrong for someone to walk in, break into a place. And if they get caught, they get let out," Perillo said.

And Lightfoot blames the retailers:

Mayor Lori Lightfoot has come under fire for suggesting retail stores are to blame for the crimes, saying she’s "disappointed" that stores "are not doing more to take safety and make it a priority."

"We also got to push retailers. Some of the retailers downtown and [on] Michigan Avenue, I will tell you, I'm disappointed that they are not doing more to take safety and make it a priority. For example, we still have retailers that won't institute plans like having security officers in their stores, making sure that they've got cameras that are actually operational, locking up their merchandise at night. Chaining high-end bags, these purses seem to be something that is attracting a lot of attention on these organized retail theft units," Lightfoot said last week.

I guess these type of crimes are better than them murdering other people. Also, lol at that mayor but she is right that they need to take security into their own hands

What’s the point of having armed security if they’re not going to act?

Sounds like they were concerned about getting sued when they shot unless the crooks had their guns raised

The crooks might have known ahead of time

Maybe a little inside info in this case?

Security guard shoots, or tries to apprehend.  Then the courts will side with the criminals and sue the stores.

Hell, look at the police.  You could have assaulted a cop.  Shot at him.  But if you throw down that gun and the cop shoots you.  Riots in the streets for killing a black man in the back.

It gets a bit tricky using force to defend property

Leftists are either dumb as F, or the biggest schemers ever.

And just to be clear, before the leftists infiltrated the Democratic Party, the cons, mods, and libs could actually have better dialogue.

The leftists truly must think their way is the only way.

Help us all if they are able to turn America inside out.
