This is one of the rare times of agree with your criticism of the contact play.  They should have waited for t he throw to second before running.  We probably would have scored on the downside.  However keep in mind that Trout and Gio struck out so had they not tried to score from third at all we still would have stranded him.

Yeah he should have and didn't. There was still no justifiable reason for Perez to throw that ball in the first place though, he deserves the bulk of the blame.

If you don't use the contact play there ... then Calhoun is out at first and you have runners on second & third with Trout up at the plate. Do they pitch to him?

or usethe contact play and you have runners at first and second with Trout at the plate ... and the possibility of scoring a run and no outs with Trout up.

If you don't use the contact play there they throw the ball to second and on to first for double play.  Trout strikes out to end the inning.  You don't score either way.
