They aren't as bad as they looked this weekend but this is a mediocre team, at best.....No farm system and 3 straight offseasons of no spending creates mediocrity...

Yeah, the offense sucked balls. The Bullpen sucked equally as bad.

This is just not a good team. I hate to be a naysayer, but nothing about this team suggests it should be above average.

We have a superstar, a nice group of average players, and a lot of guys who don't belong on the 25 man roster of a team with playoff aspirations. That makes us a 75 to 84 win team.

It's hard to keep a long term perspective when one follows the team day to day, but stuff like this happens all the time to .500 teams.

This is what happens when your offense sucks and one of your main bullpen "weapons" is Fernando Salas and one of your other bullpen "weapons" (Joe Smith) was good two years ago.

The realization of just how low the level of talent is on this team really sunk in for me. Every spring you hope for the best, then at some point it hits you

That's bad news. Next year's FA market is garbage. The top players are like 33-35 yr old bats or Stephen Strasburg and his constant injury risks/Boras as his agent

This is a below average team. Below average teams will do things exactly like this. The bullpen sucks and the offense only plays well for a few weeks in June. Been this way for years.

The most entertaining teams are those with a potent offense combined with a lockdown bullpen.

Even games where you're down by 2 or 3 runs in the 5th inning are well within reach. Plenty of optimism that the pen will hold the opponent down while the offense grinds back into it. Tie games are exciting with lots of confidence in a positive outcome. Games with the lead are almost stress free.

 

That's not exactly what we have here. Fall behind by a couple runs, forget it. Tie games and even games where the starter has given the team the lead are no sure thing. A limp noodle offense that goes inning after inning without so much as a threat while the viewer wonders which one of the erratic rag arms in the bullpen will finally give it up.

 

This was just one terrible series but gotta turn this around soon. Teams with a bad offense and pen aren't just bad, they're bad, boring and stressful.
