Retarded is a medical term, like Moron and Imbecile. Outdated because it's better, Like George Calin pointed out many times, to add consonants and extra descriptive words to effectuate change in a person's condition. Like Shell Shock became Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Retardation became Intellectual Disability. So many more consonants and two new words, it makes it sound as there really isn't a problem at all.

Yeah I have several friends that have autistic kids. I don’t use slang terms aroud them at all. One has two that are and that seems crazy that they have two kids with it.  One of my friends as a 22 year old autistic son that has been on a ventilator for Covid for about a month. It’s not looking good right now

I know my friends with autistic kids hate the R word so I don't use it around them. I would never refer to an autistic person that way anyways. I had no idea that you have an autistic child so I apologize if any of my posts where i used the word pissed you off. I never want to offend someone on a personal level so I'm OK with being called out on it if I am.
