Angels are still open to bringing back David Murphy, who could form a platoon in LF with a RH power hitter. Fallback to not signing big FA.

lol...get ready for more mediocrity in Trout's prime years if that happens. What a waste of an inner circle hall of fame player if that happens

Given the composition of this year's FA class and some of the upcoming ones, and given the sorry state of the farm, this would be an epic fail.

Hearing #Angels owner Arte Moreno really waffling on whether to take payroll past $189-million luxury tax threshold.

lol

He's really being a tight ass it seems like. We've got Wilson and Weaver coming off the books after the season which is going to free up like 38 million. Why not just pay the luxury tax for one year, be a good team, then scale back next year?

He shot his wad on the wrong players, and now he's afraid to spend on team needs. That's embarrassing ownership

Fact is, he owns the team and it's just his play thing.  Dude is richer than all of this board will ever be combined.  If he doesn't want to go over 189, he doesn't have to.  We are at his mercy.

It's his money, and I get why he'd be reluctant. But this is a guy who apparently said the tax threshold isn't a "line in the sand". So why is he apparently so afraid to cross it? Do it now when the team has a desperate need and the FA's available for the biggest position of need are as deep as it gets.

The only thing I don't like about all of this is that you can't keep giving your GM conflicting directions, he has to precisely know his budget constraints and implement the best possible plan with those limitations.  You can't jerk him around from time to time about this, if that is indeed what he is doing.

Because he has free agent PTSD.  He's already gonna pay another 60 mil for a guy to play for someone else.  If you add another bust to that, you are paying 50-60 per season to crappy LF production.  I can see why he wouldn't want to do it.
