Depends on what it would cost. If you have to give up Newcomb+ then you walk away. But if TB would be fine with a package centered around Santiago and Smith/Ellis then you would have to look at it.

My guess is TB would want a lot more than that for their "guy" though. He's still a good player (despite the expected AW hyperbole pointing out otherwise), but he doesn't appear to be nearly the same player he was just a few years ago.

But it's worth a phone call at least.

In the AL West, at Angels stadium, I'd say he's a safe bet to hit .270/.330 with 40 DB and 20 HR.  Pretty solid, probably worth 15 million a year he's being paid.  He's also 30 years old though, which means we can probably expect his prime numbers for 2-3 more seasons before things begin to drop off.  That means his last 4 years he'll be overpaid, and underperforming.  Doesn't sound too good.

Plus, our history with trading with Tampa Bay is atrocious.  Scott Kazmir, Cesar Ramos, Matt Joyce, David DeJesus.  Kaz was a disaster as soon as he arrived, and it's still a sore spot with fans that he went elsewhere to find success.  Ramos' numbers look god, but he's a lefty specialist that couldn't get lefties out, and buckled in high leverage situations.  Joyce was a dumpster fire in LF.  DeJesus did absolutely nothing upon arriving.

Maybe not trade with TB anymore.

tdawg, you and I are on the exact same page on the AW philosophy that you are either Trout or you suck, of and if you are Trout and it is August of this year, we will talk about trading you. Newsflash AW, every free agent worth a damn has risk involved and those that don't appear to have risk will cost more money than they will actually be worth.

History of trades with teams means nothing. For one, Dipoto and Reagins aren't here anymore and Freidman isn't there anymore.

Who is ignoring the last two seasons?

And you believe his trend says that 110 OPS+ is going to improve over the next $110 million dollars in a pitchers park?

Let's look at this trend, .261/.324/.419 for an awe inspiring .744 ops with fewer bombs than Calhoun in a home run friendly park. And he wasn't hurt, in fact he played 162 and 160 games, so it wasn't a health problem that he has to bounce back from. He will have them since he has been playing on cement for the last 8 years.

Nice use of the payroll for picking up the next David Freese.

David Freese doesn't play defense a quarter as well as Longoria does. Not even close.

Also Tropicana is not a hitter's park. It's actually pretty close to Angels' stadium in terms of park factors.

The dude has been worth 14 wins over the last three seasons, he's 30 years old and he's he's owned $16m per year over the next 7 years. There is a lot of excess value here, even if the back end of the contract isn't looking too hot.

But, he isn't the best player in the game and he can't be had for next to nothing so he sucks and we shouldn't go after him.

Notti brings up another good point.    Longoria playing all of those games on the stupid turf can't help his legs any long term.

Finally, once Rogers Center converts to baseball only, only one stadium remains with that stupid turf.

Time for Tampa Bay to move out of town.

They did, the games are payed in St. Petersburg.
