Replace Street with...Weaver?

I'm thinking he could be like that guy who got injured in 2005 and when he came back we saved our bullpen by moving him there. He'd pitch two innings one night, one the next. Our bullpen was a mess but suddenly he ate up innings and they got well because of it. He was signed the same year we signed Vlad.

Except Weaver is nothing like Escobar, who was previously a closer with typical closer stuff. There have been multiple reasons given as to why Weaver as closer is such a bad idea. Once you sober up, you'll realize how terrible of an idea this is.

What part of Jered Weaver turning every hitter he faces in Yankee Stadium into Mickey Mantle are you not grasping?   Experience is fine, Joe Blanton had a lot of experience too -- but when the results are showing what they are showing, it's time to pass on experience.

All you guys saying no to this idea realize that Scioscia plans to start Weaver two more times before the season ends, right?

 

 

Aw hell, this is all moot if Weaver doesn't say yes to the idea anyway. Just realizing that this isn't fantasy baseball and our only hope of replacing Smith and Street are what we have on staff right now. Maybe we can squeeze whatever is left out of Weaver as our closer for a few weeks. The other guys we have will be out there pissing all over themselves.

All that matters is can he get it done for 1-2 innings every other night or so. Only a week left in the season and then the playoffs (hopefully). Who would you rather have on the mound with a one-run lead, him or Salas? Gott? Morin? None of those guys are ready for that kind of pressure.

I love Weaver, I just don't think he should be pitching at all right now.

My guess is he is probably thinking the same thing, but he is gutting it out.

He's been pretty bad, and it has to be grinding away at his pride.

Yeah, i remember the inexperienced Royals' relievers pissing all over themselves in the playoffs last year.

I would TOTALLY use Weaver as the 9th inning option.....

 

If it were only at home with the rock pile in the background, at night with the Marine Layer particularly thick, and against a hitter with less than 5 career HR's in the minors and majors, and the Angels were up by at least 4 runs with nobody on base. 

 

Seriously, Jered Weaver should probably not be in the major leagues anymore.  How the Angels continue to roll him out there and expect to win just astounds me.
