A very big birdie told Chuck that Jerry himself went to Arte about both Albert and Hamilton.

That birdie might have been a: big on personal accountability, b: trying to squelch the narrative that he was a puppet of ownership.

Or he could have thought those were real keen signings. People's attraction to the "starry-eyed Arte" narrative is because those signings are seemingly incongruous with the way it appeared (or we hoped) that Jerry was reshaping the organization.
