You can't have it both ways red.  There would be no hypocrisy without the faith.

Not to mention you still have no idea what actually happened, what the parents did or didn't do to protect the other kids and whether or not there is any pattern of behavior beyond what he did 12 years ago.

Going by your standards, if any of your friends, relatives or yourself ever abused alcohol or drugs then you have disqualified yourself from ever discouraging anyone else from doing so because it makes you a hypocrit.  Be honest, if everything was the same except for the politics of this family (which you despise) would you still feel the same?

So, if I understand you correctly, you can't call him hypocritcal because it's anti-Christian? Call horsecrap on that. Hypocrisy is hypocrisy. There are plenty of people who are Christian who don't subscribe to his anti-gay rhetoric or views, who don't believe homosexuality is a danger to children.

In almost all cases of a minor being charged with criminal activity the court records are sealed once the agreed upon verdict/punishment is met. Names are removed by the courts for privacy. There is nothing about how the family treated this case that says they did not behave in any manner different than any other parents involved in the same proceedings.

Because......................

Christian.

Wrong.  Because of the rampant hypocrisy here.

The FRC (which until yesterday, Duggar was an Exec.Director)  has a well-documented history of demonizing gays as being a threat to children.

Duggar and his parents have promoted this stance knowing all along what he was/is capable of.

Edit: Or basically, go with what Red said.  He put it more eloquently.

He is not a teacher.  He works for an org called that deals with family values.  Seems like his family values (whether you like them or not) helped him through a hard time and shaped him into the man that he is now and he sees value in supporting that.  If these charges were within the past two years then yes, I have a big problem with that.

There is no evidence of those problems in the last 12 years.  Those issues have not surfaced since he was 15 years old.  15 freakin' years old.  Sometimes as a society we need to let people grow. Believe that people can change and improve.  We do not know the whole story......it sounds like the parents were more worried about their political career in the house of reps at the time and didn't want this in the press.  I might have a bigger issue with them than the kid.

Not a Huckabee fan at all but I like his quote in one of the articles: "Josh's actions when he was an underage teen are as he described them himself, "inexcusable", but that doesn't mean 'unforgivable' "

Would you forgive him if one of your daughters was the victim?

until I know exactly what happened I am not in the place to make any judgements.....and yes if that happened to my family I believe that for me to not tear myself apart for the rest of my life i would need to work towards some type of forgiveness.  One of my best friends is going through this process right now where this happened to his daughters.  It has been eye opening supporting him as he looks to forgive.

Good response, you have different views than I.

That isn't even close to what I said, but its obvious by that response that this isn't a subject worth discussing with you.

so forgiveness only for smaller things?

For certain things context and severity mean a lot. I'm sure there are a lot of registered sex offenders and child molesters who wish they received the same benefits of the doubt and "foregiveness".

Random side note here: I wonder what sort of effect the conservative Christian environment has in terms of dealing with sexual impulses and understanding what's normal and what's really wrong. I mean being raised in an environment where one can't even acknowledge being a sexual being outside of marriage probably isn't great for the psyche.

I know it's the internet and I shouldn't be surprised but lo and behold I am seeing people trying to excuse or act like him doing this 12 years ago means it's water under the bridge.  Everyone does dumb stuff when they're kids but what 99.99% of us did is not even in the same universe as this.  I don't know if it was a family friend like Don mentioned but on the Woody show on 98.7 this AM they said the officer (whether he be a friend, church member, whatever) who took the report didn't file it and he's now in prison for child pornography.  Addressing it after the statute of limitations if that is in fact what they did is pretty disgusting in itself.
