The Official Gym Thread: Bodybuilding - Cardio - Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

Before my kid was born I lost a ton of weight. I've put about 45 LBs back on in the past 2.8 years. Back on the wagon.

Calories in vs calories out. Look to NET under 2000 cals per day

Got a big bet going with some colleagues.

We did 60 days.  4 guys.  10% body weight loss. We didn't want to take the time for full analysis of muscle mass and fat %.

It was supposed to end in the middle of april and I was on track to lose my 20lbs.  With about a week to go, two guys claimed injury and begged for an extension so we granted it.  Since then I've put back about 5 or 6.

My problem is that I work a fair amount and I am just not a morning person.  When my day is over, I want to come home, hand with the wife and kids, and I usually cook dinner so I don't really have time at the end of the day either.  Had to figure out how to get my activity in during the day.

So I grabbed a jump rope and some elastic bands.  I also got fit bit.  Went 20-30 mins per day of constant activity alternating basic cardio exercises like jumping jacks and other body weight stuff intermixed with elastic bands for curls, tri's, shoulders, back etc.

I agree that it was all about diet thought.  Started out by juicing for a few days and then mixed in juices for lunch and sometimes breakfast and dinner.

One of the keys for me was no booze m-th.

got a few exercises and routines from www.greatist.com

relative to what I used to do, I felt totally lame but in the end I realized I didn't need to go crazy.  Just get the ball rolling and keep it rolling.

I am 6'1" and a good weight for me is about 195. I weighed about 235 until about four years ago. I got down to 193-195 and stayed there a couple years.

Changed jobs last year and stopped working out. Went from 193 to 208 over the last year.

Been hitting the gym hard and eating well the last five weeks. I think I am down to about 201-202 now, so I have only another 7-8 pounds to go.

The hardest thing for me has been hitting the gym in the morning. Few things are more difficult than trying to lift or run while still half asleep. But you just have to make yourself get up.

I try to cover about 12-15 miles per week (combo of walking and running) on the treadmill, and lift for about two hours total. In a good week I get 4-5 hours of exercise.

I have cut my calories down to 1700-2000 most days of the week. I cut my ice cream, beer, bread, sugar and pizza intake way down. I stopped putting the teaspoon of sugar in my coffee. One teaspoon, three cups a day, every day, was equaling a full pound of needless sugar each month.I have also found that the easiest meal to reduce has been dinner. I can easily consume a 1,500 calorie dinner, yet a 600-700 calorie dinner is generally all I really need. Like Adam said, it's. all calories in versus calories out.

Badass!

What are you doing for lifts? Definitely need to eat eat eat (preferably cleanly, but mostly focus on just getting enough calories) if you want to bulk.

I have some awesome programs if you need any guidance.

Or just use the Skip-It like I mentioned above. Great way to build the lats.

I try to eat clean as much as possible but by day 5-6 in the week i get fed up with chicken, veggies and potatoes. So i scarf down some burgers but i just crap them out the next day anyway.

I would love to see any program you have wicked im always open to new workouts and new regimens

Steady at 215 lbs, but I have put on a ton of muscle over the past few months though. I'm getting stronger and stronger by the day and it feels great. After I lost the weight (30+ lbs) doing a ton of cardio and weights from November 1st to late February, I'm mostly just hitting the weights now that I'm at my perfect weight. I am doing at minimum 100 situps and 50 leg raises a day. Currently taking in about 1500 calories a day, probably burning about 250 a day from workouts.

The other night I was able to bench 325 lbs 3 1/2 times with a spotter at the gym. First time I have even attempted that weight since I was 23 when I was able to do it 5-6 times.

Went to the casino last night to meet some old co-workers who I haven't seen since before I joined the gym last November and they couldn't believe how much I've changed. They said l looked fantastic. Stuff like that helps keeps you going, not to mention you just feel amazing physically.

I dont go to the gym much anymore, but I'm really into mountain biking and I hit the trails at least once a week.

Its really great exercise for whole body fitness, but especially for cardiovascular and also core strength.

I've been riding my whole life, but I really got back into it regularly about a year ago. I've lost 22 pounds since and my stamina and endurance is so much better. Had kind of a beer gut before I started and now I'm starting to see some actual ab muscles when I look in the mirror and my legs are pretty damn badass looking.

Since everyone is trying to be like Chuck and getting into the best shape of their lives for the AW softball game, I thought I'd put up some inspiration for you all.

PS Adam, is that what you were packing when you lost all that poundage?

This guy decided to bravely share a downside to weight loss you might not know about

Chuck starts a thread stating he's in the best shape of his life and no one notices?

I noticed!  Figured Chuck did it on purpose. Had no time to make a thread though, but I did see the opportunity. I'm too busy beefing up for Vegas pool appearances in August.

Pro Bodybuilding Tip: If you're looking to rip and see those gains, find a workout partner, and do sets of 1, hand it off, 2 hand it off 3...etc. up to 7, then go back down to 1.

Don't forget to drink that protein!
