A's Oracle has been in and out of the hospital since August

 

The postings on the Yahoo message board are ugly. Some pretty angry people.

The impetus of the trades was the thinking that the A's would be facing the Tigers.  It shows a short-sided view of the rest of the American League.  Now the best two teams are neither.  I've heard the MLB guys discussing the A's team during the regular season - they were using various starting lineups throughout 3/4 of the season, but that seems to have caught up to them.  There is little pop and no go-to guys in their lineup now.

 

Their SP was pretty damned good before trading for the ND WR and Hammel.  The Lester move only made sense, because they were not going to afford Cespedes next year in FA.  But as has been pointed out, you have to get to the PS to play.  Now they are playing like a defeated team.  Swept at home in a crucial 3-game match-up with the Rangers?

 

I think it is all on Beane, not Melvin.  Their smoke and mirrors 3/4 of the season dwindled down to the type of players many thought they had.

-That the M's are getting shutout by LeBlanc

-The fact that A's fans have to hope that the minor league Angels beat Felix Hernandez

You know you're in trouble when only 4 guys have a .700+ OPS since the ASB; and one of them is Eric Sogard, and just barely (.702). 

Those are some pretty gruesome OPS' since the ASB.

Cumulative oWAR for the 12 key players before the ASB: 14.6

Whoever makes it into the AL Wild Card game, it's going to make for a terrible game because the teams currently up for it right now are all awful.

Seattle already down 5-0 to the Astros with Keuchel on the mound.

A's are fortunate these other teams haven't been able to take advantage. Seattle is just 5-7 in their last 12 games while the Royals are 4-8.
