Gameday Thread TB @ Angels 5/16/14

Teams know Albert doesn't have the bat speed anymore so they're all constantly busting Pujols inside with fastballs.  Albert tries to adjust by cheating and opening way up way early trying to get the barrel on the ball, hence why he's constantly pounding the ball into the dirt on the left side.  What he should be doing is laying off inside fastballs and targeting pitches away that he can extend his arms on, but Albert's ego just can't handle the reality that he isn't that good anymore.

How in the world do we have 5 walks and 0 runs?

This team has been stranding runners at a pretty epic rate lately. I think it started with the final game of the Jays series. Think they had about 15 baserunners that game and only managed like 3 runs.

I know I'm beating a dead horse but I wish we had never signed Pujols. He has been horrible. He's as bad now as I assumed he'd be in the fifth year of that deal. I shudder to think how awful he will be two years from now...

Two years from now he will probably be an Ibanez-quality DH with fewer walks. I wasn't thrilled with the Hamilton deal either, but at least that one is mercifully only for five years. Pujols will still be on the books for four years after that

Yup. He can't hit the low and in fastball in the air, but he tries to prove he can, and hits right into the shift every time. Even when he hits it hard, it's into 3 infielders.

hindsight is 20/20, but yeah, it's obvious this team would be a lot better off if they never signed Pujols or Hamilton and used that money elsewhere

It's either mental, or Weaver is just broken and can't last more than 6 innings at a time.

Watching hitters fail with RISP is tough for pitchers too you know. Once or twice maybe, but it's gotta be pretty frustrating when it happens over and over, and especially when your team's highest paid player does nothing against a lesser pitcher than yourself.
