A couple of things about Archer.  If you hit the first pitch, the batting average against Archer is .500.  Aybar loves to hit the first pitch.  If you can't connect there, work him into a 2-1 count, because the BA against is .714 in that case.

Oh, and lucky are the 7th and 8th hitters in the lineup (Conger and Cowgill), they are hitting .400 and .471 against Archer this year.

Cowgill has the 4th highest OBP in the AL.  Whatever, lets bat him 8th and put the guy who went 3 weeks without a walk at leadoff instead.

Surely it's because Archer is a RHP...

Cowgill vs. RHP:  .318/.412/.432

Archer vs. RHB:  .380/.425/.577

Well ok then.

Ibanez has been at least somewhat productive recently but he better start heating up if he wants to keep playing once Calhoun and Hamilton comes back.

In his last 10 games (6 starts), he does have 9 walks, but is also 3-22 with zero XBH. On the year, he is hitting .152 with a .544 OPS. There is no reason this 41 year old should be hitting cleanup.

yes, well the problem here is Aybar always fakes a bunt on the first pitch. Then there is Trout who watches the first pitch strike go by.

There are so many things wrong with this:

Cowgill not at leadoff
Aybar at leadoff

Pujols batting immediately behind Trout

Cron not in the game

Ibanez in the game

Ibanez at cleanup

yeah, I think this is his basically his last chance at regular ABs, if he's even able to stay on the team. He's got another week or so to really heat up.

Why do people continue to try and figure out Scioscia's lineups?

Because they can't figure out Maddon's, or anyone else's for that matter.  Think about it, you don't think you can find similar complaints elsewhere?  I think it's easy to do with any lineup.  Our posters are just more familiar with our players.
