College students at American Univ. could not name one single U.S. Senator

Government isn't required at my school and the only option is an AP class. I took it simply because it's what I want to do in my life, but for the average, "normal" student, high school will teach you nothing about gov/politics.

It's pretty embarrassing really.

When I went, Sr year you had to take 1 sem of gov and 1 sem of economics.  Also had AP gov and AP econ options.

Nope...most kids take HOTA - History of the America's, senior year.

 

Also, econ is nonexistent.  That's technically what my course is called this semester but my teacher isn't teaching it because we have so much to do before the AP test.

Ok John McCain.  But if you would've asked me to name an Arizona senator, I probably would've forgot about him.  Haven't heard of the other two

We had U.S. Government as H.S. seniors.

Same here, although it was titled Civics, first semester, and then Economics the 2nd semester with a teacher who was an avid surfer and had a bit part in the surfing movie The Endless Summer.
