If we don't get Garza

If you don't sign Garza you sign Maholm, Capuano, or Hammel and Balfour. Balfour's value will go down after the weird fall through with the O's and the other pitching options won't cost much. The Halos would definitely need Richards and Skaggs to step up (I still think Garrett has #3 potential and Skaggs has #2 potential) but a healthy Weaver, another year of development from Richards, Skaggs and Santiago pitching to their capabilities, and a healthy Capuano/Maholm in the fifth spot would make a pretty solid rotation. Balfour added to the pen would make it pretty dangerous too

Whats the deal with Yohan? Is he playing next year?

Eight Teams Showing Interest In Johan Santana
By Steve Adams [December 11, 2013 at 12:15pm CST]

Eight teams have expressed interest in left-hander Johan Santanareports Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York. The Yankees, Mets, Twins, Rays, Orioles, Royals, Brewers and Pirates have all expressed varying levels of interest. Travis Sawchik of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review tweets that the Pirates have requested his medical records today and plan to meet with agent Peter Greenberg this afternoon.

According to Marchand, Santana and Greenberg are willing to accept an offer in the near future if a team is able to separate itself from the pack, but if not, Santana will throw in January in a showcase for interested teams. Shoulder problems have forced Santana to sit out two of the past three seasons.

Johan can probably get a guaranteed rotation spot will somebody else in the NL to regain value before next offseason. Doubt he signs with the Angels.

We need either a clear #3 or better or more minor league free agent options.

I wouldn't mind seeing Capuano signed. Then get a couple of other guys, like Kevin Slowey. More depth for this rotation would do wonders.

Don't see Tanaka posted, why not go 1 year on Maholm or Burnett with open competition with Skaggs and Santiago?

Maholm is a likely possibility, but Burnett has stated that he won't play on the west coast because his wife is afraid to fly or some crap. He may actually retire.
